(Thanks Sue)
Don't know if it's on your list of suppliers, but Sue Blacker at Natural Fibre Co. in Cornwall has just launched a new website to sell a wide range of British wools, mohair and Alpaca - grown and spun in the UK. There's also lots of info and photos on the site about the spinning processes. Thought this might be interesting to the C & G - ers! - Sue
I'm very pleased with this! I'm going to knit it up (into a scarf) then piece dye it afterwards.
The merino came as hand carded tops from New Zealand and I love the contrast effect of silk when they are plied together & dyed.
Spun silk is shiny so it reflects light, whereas the soft merino wool absorbs the light and you get different intensities of a colour when you dye them together.
This is a sample of wool & silk knitted & then dyed, see how vibrant the silk is.
