New knitting magazine: 'The Knitter'

Comments

I attempted to take out a subscription for The Knitter before Christmas. I telephoned and explained that I didn't want to take out a direct debit but would prefer to pay for a year's subscription in advance on my card. I was told that if I paid for a year in advance I would have to pay the full cover price and I therefore declined! I would have thought a one off payment, the method I use for several other magazines , was much better than taking a direct debit payment four times a year. There are usually alternative methods of payment available. I wonder why they are so inflexible? It's not very encouraging.
[this is good]
I saw this magazine for the first time at one of my knitting groups yesterday. It is a vast improvement on the existing British magazines and is very glossy! Apparently it will not come in a plastic bag so there are no free gifts. However, I do think that the cover price is a bit high, especially as at least one design is already published elsewhere (the Rowan one on the web link that Loraine gave). I am not sure that there is enough for an experienced knitter, but it is a step in the right direction.
I am very pleased to see that there are now numerous payment options to subscribe to The Knitter.
I seemed to have been cut of in my prime!! To continue. However I shall wait and see what the next issue is like before I decide whether or not to subscribe. I agree it is streets ahead of Knitting and Simply Knitting etc. but my favourite is still Vogue Knitting with its exciting and innovative stitch ideas and patterns. Maybe I am being too fussy, but I would have thought that the first issue in particular would be checked and double checked and yet in Amanda Crawford's profile she is credited with designing 'two stunning cable handbags' when in fact she designed the cable cushion covers and Belinda Boaden on whom there is a two page article designed the bags. When something as straight forward as this gets throught the proof reading you do wonder about the accuracy of the patterns. I also agree with Nicki about pre published patterns. Out of the 10 garment patterns 8 have already been published and only 2 have been specifically designed for the magazine. Maybe there is an opening here for C & G students.........
I have received Issue 2 and am not terribly impressed - it looks just like all the others, lots of patterns. Also I see there were a number of errata from Issue 1 (I know, pots, kettles, black ...!). I am putting together a bid to get them to feature C&G student work, so much unrecognised & unseen talent & creativity. L
